AHMEDPUR EAST -MNA Arif Aziz Sheikh, a member of ‘the 14-member parliamentary commission for creation of new provinces in Punjab’ said that on August 28, the commission’s meeting will be held in Islamabad to elect its chairman.

He was talking to the media in the National Press Union office. He said that Punjab Assembly speaker has not yet forwarded the names of two members of the provincial assembly to the speaker of the National Assembly.

He said that the commission could start working from August 28 and will submit its recommendations to the prime minister for the creation of South Punjab Province and restoration of Bahawalpur Province within one month.

To a query about the restoration of former Bahawalpur province, Arif Aziz revealed that he was contacting Bahawalpur National Awami Party Chief Nawab Salahuddin Abbasi in London for his guidance about Bahawalpur province restoration.

He stated that the PPP government would create new provinces in its tenure according to the aspiration of masses

“We will incorporate demands of 12.5 million people of Bahawalpur in the commission’s recommendations,” he said. He also commented on development schemes and said that he would meet Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Asharaf soon for getting the approval of Rs 300 million funds for the uplift of NA-183.
