PESHAWAR - In order to revive MMA, central leadership of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) and Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) will meet soon after Eid-ul-Fitr. Efforts are under way to restore the old six-party alliance seeing the uncertain situation on the horizon, sources told TheNation on Sunday.

Having electoral alliances, different political and religious parties think differently. Some of them may go with old buddies, while others search to have new ones in the upcoming general elections. The MMA, which has ruled Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for about five years, and being part of a coalition, it has also governed Baluchistan presently hangs in balance.

Time and again, the provincial leadership of JUI-F and JI made efforts to revive the MMA, a conglomerate of six religious parties, but to no avail.

Insiders said that despite having dissimilarity over certain matters, they still want the reorganization of MMA, as except JUI-F and JI, other parties within the alliance already agreed to have an alliance of religious parties again.

JUI-F and JI, the two major parties within the alliance, have been blamed for delaying the process, as it has been learnt that just a few within JI and JUI-F have been opposing the revival of the MMA.

Though, various reasons are cited for this, but a major one is that if MMA is restored, then, those who have lost the 2002 elections would definitely not get party ticket for contesting coming polls, thus, they have started opposition MMA restoration, the sources said.

In the past, both the parties had accused each other of using delaying tactics, which has created unrest among those who wanting MMA restoration at all costs.

JUI-F has warned that MMA could be restored except JI, if coming talks between JUI-F and JI are failed, as central leadership of the both the parties are going to meet after Eid-ul-Fitr, sources said. Political pundits said that in wake of political developments taking place these days reflect that both JUI-F and JI may not adjust themselves with new buddies, so, hectic efforts would be made this time to restore the MMA.

Instead of making an electoral alliance with different political parties in future, JUI-F KPK, once again preferred to convince its old buddies to restore MMA in a bid to get maximum seats in the coming polls sources said, as restoration of MMA would benefit all its old stakeholders, if JUI-F succeeded in removing hurdles in its way.

In case, PTI enters into alliance with JI, then where will JUI-F go will it.

It is worth mentioning here that most recently majority of JUI-F provincial Shura has backed revival of the MMA.

Because, it thinks that instead of having an alliance with different parties, it would be easy to go with old partners as well as more useful for all.

It has also been learned that majority of the JI leaders are also in favour of MMA restoration, whereas only a few have opposed restoration of the MMA.

Even the former JI ameer Qazi Hussain Ahmad wants revival of the old alliance of the religious parties.

However, being a chunk holder of the MMA, the JUI-F will have to come forward and convince all the other stakeholders.

This coming meeting in this connection is considered to produce positive results, as after a long time, top leadership of both the parties would meet, sources concluded.
