MULTAN - All the tall claims made by Wasa regarding keeping city neat and clean on Eid have proved false as many areas of Multan presented the view of sewage ponds on Sunday.

A survey conducted by The Nation disclosed that areas like Sabzazar Colony, New AC Terminal Vehari Road, Millat College Road, Jamia Sahibuz Zaman Street Bosan Road, Shah Khurram Road, Shaheen Market, Old CIA Staff and many other vicinities are submerged in sewage since long but the Wasa failed to drain the water out.  “It sounds as if we are under house arrest. We cannot go out of our home and even we cannot go to masjid for prayer because of sewage outside,” lamented one Ramzan in Shaheen Market area. The other residents of the area posed a question to the Wasa authorities as to how could they celebrate Eid in current condition. They pointed out that the sewerage water also contaminated sub-soil water and the lives of their children were under severe threat. They urged upon the Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to resolve the issue and launch action against those responsible for this mismanagement.

SUICIDE ATTEMPT: A vegetable vender committed self-immolation after failing to arrange clothes, shoes and other Eid-related items for his children here on Saturday night.

The injured, who was identified as Muhammad Sharif, a resident of Hassanabad, sprinkled oil and set himself ablaze. He was rushed to Nishtar Hospital where his condition is stated to be precarious.

The tragic incident took place when Muhammad Sharif got highly dejected when his children demanded Eid gifts. “His sons Imran and Altaf asked him to provide clothes and shoes but he failed to arrange the items because of poverty and high prices,” said his neighbour.
