GWADAR: Authorities acquired at least 2,281 acre land for a free trade zone and the work is to be started within two to three months.

Gwadar Development Authority Chairman Dostain Khan Jamaldini said that the Expressway project will be started this year. At least Rs 14 billion have been reserved for the project, he added.

He also said that Gwadar International Airport’s construction is going to start this year. Jamaldin further said that China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) includes the potable water project in Gwadar.

The China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is a development mega project which aims to connect the Gwadar Port in southwestern Pakistan to China’s northwestern autonomous region of Xinjiang, via a network of highways, railways and pipelines to transport oil and gas.

The economic corridor is considered central to China–Pakistan relations and will run about 3,000 km from Gwadar to Kashgar. Overall construction costs are estimated at over $46 billion, with the entire project expected to be completed in several years.
