Police chief allays scholars’ concern

Seminaries come under scrutiny

Islamabad - Local religious scholars have expressed concern over the government’s move to place religious seminaries under scrutiny.
Islamabad police chief in recent past issued orders for scrutiny of the seminaries on the directions of Interior Minister Ch Nisar Ali Khan.
The police chief yesterday assured a delegation of local religious scholars that religious seminaries would only be searched when police would have strong evidence about involvement of any student in terror or crime incident. He said cooperation of religious scholars is very much crucial for ensuring peace in society and Islamabad police will address the concerns of administration of seminaries in case of scrutiny. He appreciated the role of scholars over minimum use of loud speakers. However, he said there is still need to create awareness among religious scholars in rural areas. The scholars said that seminaries and mosques will promote interfaith harmony and no one would be allowed to fan sectarianism.
