LAHORE - Top police officers on Wednesday discussed the security situation in the Punjab province in the wake of Attock suicide bombing which left 21 people dead including the provincial home minister, Shujaa Khanzada.

The Regional Police Officers’ conference was held at the central police office under the chairmanship of Punjab Inspector General of Police Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera in order to review the security strategy across Punjab.

A police spokesperson said it was decided during the conference that the police would implement the National Action Plan (NAP) in its true letter and spirit. The police security will also be intensified for important personalities, government and semi-government buildings, public places, religious places and business centers.

Similarly, all the field officers are directed to take action, according to the standard operating procedure given to them, on threat alerts they would receive in the future and no negligence would be accepted in this regard. Alongside this, information sharing with intelligence agencies will be enhanced, the spokesperson said.

The conference also decided that the foreign experts, particularly Chinese working on development projects in the Punjab province will remain in touch with the police regarding their movements.

The police were also ordered to step up efforts to hunt down hardened criminals and proclaimed offenders. The provincial police chief stressed upon the officers to stay in touch with their designated police stations to ensure close monitoring of criminal activities in their areas.

Also, all the field officers are asked to start working to finalize the security arrangements for the forthcoming Moharram-ul-Haram.

Punjab Information Technology Board Chairman Umar Saif, Additional-IGP (Operations) Arif Nawaz, Usman Khattak, Sohail Khan, Javed Islam, Ali Zulnorain, DIG (Headquarters) Farooq Mazhar, DIG Akhtar Umar Hayat Lalayka, DIG SPU Tariq Nawaz Malik, DIG (Investigation) Chaudhary Shafiq Gujjar, and RPO Sheikhupura Sahebzada Shahzad Sultan were present in the central police office. However, all the RPOs and DPOs attended the conference through video link.
