Scores of visually-impaired persons staged a protest against the district administration for not providing jobs under a quota fixed for the special persons.

Led by Tanveer Hussain, Mazhar Abbas, Jahanzaib Bala, Sohail Ahmad, Luqman Haider and Riaz Warraich, they staged a sit-in at Jinnah Chowk, blocking main road for all kind of vehicular traffic for two hours.

Mr Hussain said that the Punjab government had fixed special quota for the special persons about four months back. But the district administration is not entertaining their applications for jobs despite a lapse of three months. He said that since then they have running from pillar to the post but to no purpose.

They, however, called off protest when Naib Tehsildar Zahid Hussain held negotiation with them. The officer assured them that they would be provided jobs in the near future. Meanwhile, due to blockage of the road, a car rider hit and injured a blind person.

KILLED OVER ENMITY: A villager was shot dead near Parr Naseeba village by six villagers over old enmity.

Police source said that deceased Shoukat Ali along with his mother-in-law Maqsooda Bibi was on the way to Bhobrra village. When he reached near Parr Naseeba village, six accused ambushed them, killing Ali on the spot.

On the application of Maqsooda Bibi, the police have registered a case against Zafar Iqbal, Muhammad Nawaz and two others.
