NAB ‘grills’ Shehbaz in Punjab companies scandal

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President and former Punjab chief minister (CM) Shehbaz Sharif on Monday appeared before a joint-investigation team of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in a case pertaining to Punjab companies scandal.

Shehbaz Sharif had been called for an enquiry in corruption cases of Ashiana-e-Iqbal Housing scheme and Punjab Power Development Company (PPDC).

The anti-graft watch dog’s joint-investigation team grilled Shehbaz Sharif in cases related to awarding contracts against merit and appointment case for one hour and forty six minutes.

The PML-N president is accused of abusing his power and ordering to award Ashiana Housing Scheme contract against merit, which raised concerns on the transparency of the project.

Shahbaz Sharif is also facing charges of illegal appointments in Punjab Power Development Company (PPDC), which caused huge loss to the national exchequer. Sources privy to the NAB said that the decision related to summoning the former Punjab CM again would be taken after reviewing the record presented by him.

It is pertinent here to mention that Shehbaz Sharif has attended the hearing of alleged corruption twice before. NAB had charged Shehbaz Sharif with corruption and for granting illegal privileges
