Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Sardar Usman Ahmed Khan Buzdar was sworn-in as Punjab chief minister on Monday in a simple but a decent ceremony, formally ending the 10-year rule of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif.
Acting Governor Chaudhry Pervez Elahi administered the oath to Usman Buzdar and felicitated him for assuming the office of the chief minister. Buzdar was elected as chief minister on Sunday after he grabbed 186 votes against PML-N’s Hamza Shehbaz Sharif, who secured 159 votes.
The nomination of Buzdar received criticism on electronic and social media but Prime Minister Imran Khan extended full support to the incoming chief minister.
Being previously affiliated with PML-Q and PML-N in the recent past, Buzdar had joined the PTI just days before the July 25 general elections. His family heads the Buzdar tribe and his father has been elected as a lawmaker more than once in the past.
