LAHORE - A policeman survived gunshot yesterday but got critically wounded while chasing three robbers near Punjab University New Campus.
According to a police spokesman, the armed bandits robbed a lady in Ravi block of Iqbal Town when a police patrol was alerted nearby. “Three motorcyclists were on the run after looting a woman at gunpoint when a police team started chasing them,” the spokesman added.
“They left their motorcycle on the road and ran towards the fields near the New Campus in Mustafa Town police precincts.”
The robbers opened straight fire on the policemen. As a result, a police constable sustained a bullet in his torso while the criminals dropped the looted valuables in the fields and fled away, the spokesman told the media.
The cops handed over the handbag to the lady, who praised the cops for fighting the criminals courageously. The injured cop, Sultan was rushed to the Jinnah Hospital where his condition was said to be out of danger.
Police have seized the motorcycle and have registered a case. Investigation is in process.
