LAHORE - Punjab Governor Rafique Rajwana has said the country’s youth needs knowledge-based education.
Addressing 124th Convocation of Punjab University yesterday, the PU chancellor urged the students to give benefit of their degrees to Pakistan.
Renowned scientist Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan, HEC Punjab Chairman Dr Nizamud Din, Vice Chancellor Dr Mujahid Kamran, renowned lawyer SM Zafar, vice chancellors of various universities, students and their parents were present on the occasion.
Governor Rajwana appreciated Yousaf Saleem, the blind student of University Law College who secured gold medal in LLB Honors program. “We must learn the art of living from such people,” the governor states. He advised the students to help poor segments of the society.
VC Dr Mujahid Kamran said that genocide of Muslims was going on and they were facing destruction only because they were not contributing to creation of new knowledge.
Dr Kamran said that Gideon Polya, in his book “Body Count”, said that there had been 1.3 billion avoidable deaths during the period 1950-2005 of which 600 million were Muslims. “We (Muslims) were so much ignorant that we even could not count our dead bodies and this was done by the Australian Jewish scientist,” he added, referring to Polya.
In the recent Afghan War, around 4.9 million Afghans had been killed out of which 1.2 million were killed in bombings while over 3.7 million Afghans died of diseases and lack of medicines till 2010, the VC said and added over 2.7 million Iraqis were killed in the recent Iraq War and five million children lost their parents. “Journalists and columnists should focus on these issues and highlight these problems,” he urged.
Dr Mujahid Kamran also thanked Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan for his participation in the convocation. He congratulated the graduating students and advised them to help each other.
On the occasion, SM Zafar and Faqeer Ahmad Fqeer were awarded honourary degrees in the subjects of Law and Punjabi respectively.
Religious leader Maulana Raghib Hussain Naeemi also obtained his PhD degree in Islamic Studies while his thesis entitled “Asri Muashi Masail Ijtihad-Manhaj Wa Asrat” in the convocation.
SM Zafar thanked Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan, Dr Mujahid Kamran and Syndicate members for such an award.
CADETS MEET VC: A delegation of students from Cadet College Mastung, Balochistan called on Vice Chancellor Dr Mujahid Kamran yesterday. Director Dr Amir Ejaz, Izhar Hameed Baloch and 30 students and three faculty members from Cadet College Mastung were present on the occasion.
The delegation thanked the vice chancellor for providing free education, boarding and other facilities to the students from Balochistan.
