Rawalpindi - The Rawalpindi Cantonment Board yesterday organised a walk to raise awareness on cleanliness.

Scores of sanitation workers, RCB high-ups, officers of district government traders and members of civil society walked from Ghakhar Plaza to Kashmir Road Square. The participants were holding banners and placards with mentioning slogans “my waste, my responsibility,” “dump the waste of houses and shops before arrival of traffic on roads,” “support RCB to defeat dirt,” and “neat and clean environment, healthy society.”

The walk was led by Additional Chief Officer RCB Tayyaba. Assistant Commissioner (AC) Cantt Dr Sataish, Deputy CO RCB Rameez Raja, Markazi Anjuman-e-Tajran Cantt General Secretary General Zafar Qadri, the elected members of RCB, other traders and members of civil society also participated.

Talking to media, Dr Sataish and Tayyaba said that it is important to make door-to-door and shop-to-shop visit to raise awareness about cleanliness so that citizens could play an active role in maintaining hygiene in the cantonment. They said that public awareness campaigns should be regularly conducted to ensure greater outreach. They said that greater efforts are needed to mobilise communities for keeping the environment clean.

Later, Dr Sataish and Tayyaba visited different shops in Saddar area and urged the shopkeepers to maintain cleanliness.
