LAHORE - Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has asked the Punjab government to accelerate implementation of the National Action Plan (NAP) according to its spirit.
Presiding over a high level meeting on law and order in Punjab and other provinces at his Raiwind residence yesterday, the prime minister expressed the resolve that no compromise will be made on eradicating terrorism and extremism in the country and making Pakistan a haven of peace and harmony.
The meeting was also attended by Interior Minister Ch Nisar Ali Khan, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Water and Power Minister Khwaja Asif, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, IG Police, chief secretary, home secretary, and other senior officers of the provincial administration.
The home secretary briefed the meeting on the implementation of the National Action Plan (NAP) and the result so far yielded in the struggle against terrorists, their facilitators and the elements fomenting extremism in the province.
The meeting was told about the measures adopted to check religious seminaries, their source of funding and registration. The meeting was also briefed about the Orange Line Merto Train project.
The IGP briefed the meeting on the law and order situation in the province and the arrangements made for the upcoming Jashne Eid Miladun Nabi (SAW) and the Christmas the following day, besides the general security steps.
The prime minister said protection to the life and property of the citizens is the top most responsibility of the government as such the police and the administration must be alert to discharge their duties. “All out resources should be utilised to ensure sustained peace and security in Punjab.”
Nawaz said the government has put up best efforts to root out terrorism as well as to address the serious problems of energy, price hike and unemployment and the day is not far when the government would have solved them to the benefit of the people.
Nawaz expressed satisfaction with the steps taken to carry out the NAP. He however advised the Punjab government to step up pace of the implementation of the plan as the government is determined to act against the elements who are out to destroy peace.
The premier lauded efforts made by the Punjab government towards the projects launched for supplying potable water to the citizens and others for the relief the masses, particularly those living in rural areas.
He was particularly impressed with the Punjab government initiatives in transport sector and appreciated the Orange Line Metro Train project, which is under completion with the financial and technical assistance of China.
Nawaz commending the Punjab government projects to end electricity crisis, remarked that the practical steps of the government would completely eliminate loadshedding in the country.
