FAISALABAD/BAHAWALPUR-Punjab Governor Rafiq Rajwana yesterday underscored that politicians should prefer national interest and agenda to everything else for rapid development and progress of Pakistan.

“The present govt is moving in right direction for strengthening the social and economic sectors and completion of public welfare projects.”

Punjab Governor Rafiq Rajwana was addressing the 7th Convocation of GC University held here at New Campus on Jhang road on Monday.

GCU Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Ali, members of parliament - Haji Akram Ansari, Haji Ilyas Insari, Dr Najma Afzal, Rai Usman Khara, faculty members, students and their parents attended the ceremony. The governor congratulated the successful students and their parents, saying that future of the country hinges on the educated youngsters, adding that responsibility of the youngsters has been increased manifold to serve the country. He emphasized upon the degree-holders to utilize their skills and knowledge for serving the deprived people to pay back the country by working hard in different fields.

Mr Rajwana said that Pakistan does not lack resources and capabilities but it is needed to utilize the blessing of Almighty Allah by promoting nationalism. He said that provision of social justice is the prime responsibility of the govt and the PML-N government is acting on provision of facilities of education, health, clean drinking water and other needs of the public. He said that Punjab CM Shehbaz Sharif is striving for the development and progress of the education sector and no talented students was deprived from the higher education due to the lack of resources and talented students were being very much encouraged besides giving attention on quality education. Earlier, in his welcome address, VC Dr Muhammad Ali thanked the Governor for participating in the convocation and highlighted the performance of the University. He informed that two academic blocks and two girls hostels have been completed at a cost of Rs800 million and the Federal government has provided funds of Rs780 million for research. He said that Rs300 million had been allocated as pension funds for the employees while Rs65 million has been earmarked as Endowment Funds for providing scholarships to the deserving students.

In Bahawalpur, the Punjab governor said that the government has taken multiple steps for the promotion of education in accordance with the vision of PM Nawaz Sharif. The educational budget has been doubled and special attention is being paid towards higher education sector by improving standards of teaching and research. He was talking to Islamia University of Bahawalpur Vice Chancellor Dr Qaiser Mushtaq at a seminar organised by the NAB Multan.

On the occasion, the IUB VC said that the university has shown extra-ordinary Improvement in the HEC ranking by jumping from 51st to 11th position in a short period of one year due to administrative, academic and fiscal reforms. The VC apprised the chancellor that Study Park and Day Care Centre which were inaugurated by him have been completed and are fully functional. The governor also appreciated the execution of mega PEEF event and participation of Punjab CM Shehbaz Sharif in the event. Dr Mushtaq also briefed the governor about various administrative initiatives taken at the Ghazi University, DGhazi Khan.
