KARACHI - Karachi Mayor Wasim Akhtar said on Monday that all citizens must join hands for the progress and betterment of the city, and the political parties needed to play a positive role in this regard.

He expressed these views after talks with the head of Pakistan Democratic Party (PDP) Basharat Mirza at his residence.

The mayor was accompanied by Parliamentary Leader in the City Council Aslam Afridi, DMC East Chairman Moeed Anwer whereas PDP Karachi President Arshad Mirza was also present on the occasion.

On arrival, Wasim was welcomed by Basharat Mirza and other local office-bearers of PDP.

He said that the purpose of his visit to various political parties’ offices was to bring these on one page over the issues of Karachi.

He said that people had elected him and his colleagues for solving their problems. “We have started work in the city, and we want to take on board all other parties so that we all could work for the progress and betterment of the city,” Wasim added.

Meanwhile, Karachi mayor has said that fumigation work has started in Malir as part of the 100-day cleanliness campaign in the city.

“We request the provincial government to take effective measures for the prevention of epidemics and improve the condition of Saudabad Government Hospital,” he added.

He said this during a visit to the Saudabad Government Hospital on Monday evening along with DMC Korangi Chairman Nayyar Raza, Director Municipal Services Masood Alam, Director Medical Services Dr. Muhammad Ali and others.

Wasim went to different wards of the hospital and met with the patients suffering from mysterious disease.

The DMS of hospital briefed him about the situation.

The mayor expressed concern over the spread of mysterious disease in some areas of district Malir and urged health and medical officials to ensure its prevention.

He said it was his desire to put in maximum efforts with available resources.
