Hopes and fears

This is with reference to the great news that Iran has launched a home-built satellite into the earth's orbit on February 2, coinciding with the30th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution. The Iranian news agency IRNA said the satellite would take orbital measurements and would circle the earth 15 times every 24 hours. Iranian aerospace expert Mr Asghar Ebrahimi further informed the world that Omid (hope), as it is to be called, has an elliptical orbit of minimum 250 kilometers and maximum 400km. On this historical day, people of Pakistan are as jubilant as their Iranian brothers and congratulate the whole Iranian nation. Please note that United States, France and Britain have all shown their serious concerns on the launching of this satellite. The West has apprehension that the satellite program could "possibly lead to the development of ballistic missiles". -ENGR. MUNAWAR HUSSAIN, Lahore, via e-mail, February 4.
