It has been observed that tractor-trolleys are extensively used for hauling loads of bricks, earthwork and crops on city roads. Being slow moving vehicles, they hamper the vehicular traffic. If these could be banned for other uses and assigned for mechanical cultivation only for which tractors are meant, this could introduce some sanity on our city roads. The government ought to encourage the use of loading (dumper) trucks by issuing loans for the same instead of permitting tractor trolleys to be used on the city roads. The tractors are not issued driving licenses for plying on city roads like vehicular traffic. They should not be allowed to be used as such. Enforcing proper use of tractors for agricultural purposes would lessen the traffic hazards on already overcrowded city roads. -DR M. YAQOOB BHATTI, Lahore, via e-mail, February 3.
