Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Monday said the democratic government has always given top consideration to the policies of national interests and vowed to continue honouring public aspirations in this regard. The Prime Minister stated this in a meeting with Senators from FATA, Abdul Razzaq Afridi and Hafiz Abdul Rashid called at the PM House here. Gilani said dictators in the past, succumbed to external pressure on even one telephone call, however the elected democratic government took firm policy decisions in the foreign policy domain.

The Prime Minister said the 20th Amendment will strengthen the Election Commission of Pakistan enabling it fully to hold free, fair and impartial elections in the country.

The Senators appreciated the leadership of the Prime Minister for strengthening democratic institutions in the country and also taking firm stand for the upholding of territorial sovereignty of the country.

They reaffirmed their support for democracy and the constitution and reposed full confidence in the leadership of Prime Minister Gilani.

The Senators highly appreciated the Prime Minister for record allocation of Rs. 15 billion for FATA development, adding that General Musharraf received “blank cheque” in the name of FATA but showed no interest in improving the quality of life of the people.
