LAHORE – World Wide Fund for Nature – Pakistan in collaboration with the Muslim Commercial Bank organised Nature Carnival 2012 at the Race Course Park on Sunday.

The event attracted a large number of people from all walks of life, including families with children.

The objective of this program was to foster a sense of individual responsibility and accountability in the future generations of Pakistan, towards nature conservation. The participants enjoyed events like funfair, puppet show, live music performance, lucky draw, train ride and nature exhibition at the carnival.

Head of Corporate Communications MCB Mubashir Bashir, said, “It is heartening to see the enthusiasm of the participants and their interest in environmental issues. The MCB and WWF-Pakistan are committed to create awareness about environmental conservation among youth to safeguard the rapidly-polluting environment of the country so that coming generations can breathe in fresh air.”

He further said that the MCB was conscious of its responsibility to the society and the evidence is new head quarters premises of the bank that is a model of energy conservation and clean environment. Similarly, he said, the Nishat Group had established its industries based on pollution free productive activities and the group proudly boasts of having installed the largest water treatment plant in its textile processing unit.

The Nature Carnival attracted a large number of people due to the simple yet appealing concepts exhibited at various stalls, to inspire the people to keep the City clean and pollution free.

A WWF official said that it was the only festival in the country that brings together students, parents, corporate sector, media, government organizations, conservation organizations and general public to promote learning about critical environmental challenges faced by Pakistan.

WWF believes, he added, that by involving students in nature exhibitions like this inspires them not only to use their creativity for better environment practices but also to draw scientific knowledge in this field to create cogent pieces of work.

The Nature Carnival would also be held in Islamabad on February 26 in F-9 CDA Park.
