ISLAMABAD - Capital Development Authority (CDA) on Wednesday demolished 14 illegal bus and wagon stands operating at Faizabad and Mandi Mor.

Officials of the enforcement directorate of CDA and police participated in the operation against encroachers, while the senior superintendent of Islamabad police and assistant commissioner were also present.

President of Islamabad Transporters and Passengers Welfare Association, Irfan Khan Niazi, while talking to the media persons said that the CDA did not give them any notice prior to launching the operation. He stated that following the court’s directives the bus and van owners were shifting their stands elsewhere. He said that transporters were facing the bus stand problem due to the non-implementation of bus the stand project in Sector I-11 by the CDA. He claimed that 164 kanals of land had been allocated in 2003 for shifting of these bus stands. He that CDA had announced to build bus stands in Sector I-11/4 in 2011 and then allots them through open bidding. But that project never materialized, he added.

He said that the transporters association sent its last reminder to the CDA on January 30, 2013 for implementation of this project. He claimed that only three bus stands in the federal capital possessed no objection certificate.
