SADIQABAD

People are being denied healthcare at the Sadiqabad Tehsil Headquarters Hospital where the doctors are used to referring the patients to Sheikh Zayed Hospital Rahim Yar Khan or their own private clinics or hospitals for treatment.

The emergency ward of the hospital, situated at the juncture of three provinces of Pakistan, lacks facilities such as medicines, x-ray films and laboratory. Moreover, the doctors after giving first aid refer the patients to private hospitals or the government health facility in Rahim Yar Khan. The ambulance meant for patients has been reserved for the medical superintendent and the doctors of the hospital while the poor have been left in the lurch.

It is also learnt that the posts of various doctors like orthopaedic, general surgeon and physician have been lying vacant for a long time. The Punjab chief minister and other health high-ups should ensure provision of healthcare at the hospital, demanded citizens including M Aslam, Arshad, Abdul Rauf, Rehmatullah, Mujahid, Abdullah, M Aslam, Abbas Taj and Rafiq Awaisi.

The impoverished people are deprived of healthcare facilities and medicines at the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital which faces shortage of medicines even in cases of emergency. The official ambulance is being misused as the transportation facility remains unavailable for the deserving persons, said sources.

The ambulance is used by the doctors and other hospital staff thereby adding to the patients and their families’ woes, they said. The citizens demanded that the officials concerned should ensure the provision of healthcare facilities at the hospital instead of making it a centre where patients are referred to other hospitals for treatment. They alleged that most of the hospital doctors were running their private hospitals or clinics and they refer more often than not the patients visiting the THQ Hospital to their private health facilities.
