KHYBER AGENCY - An Afghan national religious scholar was gunned down by unknown armed persons here in Sultan Khel area of tehsil Landi Kotal of Khyber Agency on Friday.
The Khasadar and local sources informed that Maulana Abdul Haleem was on his way to home after offering morning prayer in his Hujra (male guest house) when he was ambushed.
The undisclosed assailants made an easy escape after committing crime, locals said.
It is to be mentioned here that for the last 15 years the slain Maulana was residing in Sultan Khel area and was running seminary in the area to impart religious education to the tribal children.
Soon after the incident, administration officials moved to the scene, collected evidences from the site, lodged case and initiated investigation to trace the killers.
