ISLAMABAD: An additional and sessions court today issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for former president General (retd) Pervez Musharraf and rejected his plea seeking permanent exemption from appearing in Abdul Rashid Ghazi murder case.
Additional and Sessions Judge Parvez Qadir Memon, announced the verdict on Musharraf’s plea for permanent exemption from appearing in the case, which it had reserved on Feb 13 after conclusion of arguments by the lawyers.
The court also issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for Musharraf and ordered the authorities concerned to produce him before the court on next date of hearing.
Pervez Musharraf was represented at the court by Malik Tahir advocate while Tariq Asad advocate appreared for the Lal Masjid Shuhada Foundation.
The counsel of Musharraf said they would challenge the order.
The former president has never appeared before the court during 55 hearings of the case. This is fourth non-bailable arrest warrants for Musharraf in this case.
It may be added the three-day standoff in July 2007 at the Lal Masjid in Islamabad had claimed scores of lives, including the students and security personnel. Abdul Rasheed Ghazi, brother of Lal Masjid cleric Maulana Abdul Aziz, was also among those killed in the operation.
