PESHAWAR: The business community in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) today demanded the provincial government to depute Rangers in the city for providing them security against extortionists, target killers and extremists.

The demand was made through a resolution passed unanimously by the traders and businessmen during a condolence reference held here at Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KPCCI) in connection with the killing of prominent businessman Haji Haleem Jan.

It may be added that Late Haji Haleem Jan, who was also a leader of the business community, had been receiving life threats from extortionists for his constant refusal to pay them money. He was gunned down by a target killer in Qissa Khawani bazar on February 9.

Prominent businessmen, including Senator Ilyas Ahmad Bilour, Haji Ghulam Ali, President KPCCI, Zulfiqar Ali, Ehtesham Haleem, Faud Ishaq, Sufi Bashir Ahmad, Sharafat Ali Mubarik and others attended the condolence meeting.

Speaking on the occasion, KPCCI President Zulfiqar Ali termed the killing of Haji Haleem Jan a big loss for the trading community of KP in general and Peshawar in particular.

He criticized the KP government for its failure to provide safety and protection to the business community. “The murder of Haji Haleem Jan is an evidence of the failure of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) government,” he added.

Zulfiqar Ali lauded the services of Haji Haleem Jan for the cause of business community.

Senator Ilyas Bilour expressed deep shock and grief over the murder of Haji Haleem Jan.

He demanded the KP government to quit and hand over law and order maintenance to Rangers. He also demanded operation clean-up against extortionists and target killers.

The target killing, he said, had become a routine matter in KP. The government had failed to provide protection to business community, he added.

The condolence referrence was addressed by a number of businessmen, who also demanded protection from extortionists and kidnappers.

Earlier, Quran Khawani was held and special prayers were offered for eternal peace of departed soul of Haji Haleem Jan.
