LAHORE - A youth shot dead his sister for ‘honour’ in Kahna area of the provincial capital yesterday.

The police concerned registered a case, however, no arrest was made till filling of this report. According to police the runaway youth had issue over his sister’s relationship. The cops claimed that raid were under way to nail him while the body was sent for postmortem.

In his first meeting with first Oscar winner Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy a couple of days ago, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif called 'honour killing' a blot on the society.

Although the government has drafted laws over the issue, lack of implementation let such crime took place.

The minister told the Oscar winner that all concerned had been directed for plugging the loopholes in the existing laws in order to eliminate honour killings from Pakistan.

"Honour killing is a most critical issue and his government is determined to adopt all possible ways and means for removing this stain from our society.

"Women are the most essential part of our society and I believe in their empowerment, protection and emancipation for achieving the shared goal of a prosperous and vibrant Pakistan, Nawaz said

According to women rights groups, every year hundreds of women become victim of honour killing, mostly by close male relative, who then walk scot free from jails as being they are forgiven by the heirs of the victim.
