20 in race for 12 slots from Punjab

 

LAHORE : As many as 20 candidates of PML-N, PTI, PPP and PML-Q will be contesting Senate elections from Punjab, according to the final list issued by the provincial chapter of Election Commission of Pakistan.

The contest on 12 seats (Seven general, four technocrat and one minority) of Punjab is going to be held on March 3 in Punjab Assembly building.

Six aspirants on Monday withdrew their candidature-ship as it was the last day for taking back nomination papers. Those who withdrew papers are: Ishaq Dar on general seat, Hina Rabbani Khar, Shiza Fatima, Sami Ullah, Mian Miraj Din and William Micheal on women, technocrat and minority seats.

Former finance minister had submitted his nomination papers on two different categories: general and technocrat.

The PML-N candidates on general seats are: Dr Asif Kirmani, Rana Maqbool, Rana Mahmoodul Hassan, Shaheen Khalid Butt, Zubair Gull, Haroon Akhtar Khan and Musadik Malik. The PPP’s Shehzad Ali Khan, PML-Q’s Kamil Ali Aga and PTI’s Ch Sarwar are also candidates on general seat. On Technocrat seats, PML-N’s Ishaq Dar, Hafiz Abdul Karim, PTI’s Malk Asif and PPP’s Nawazish Ali Khan are contesting.

On Women seats, PTI’s Andleeb Abbas, PML-N’s Nuzhat Sadiq and Sadia Abbasi are contesting elections. PTI’s Victor Azaraya and PML-N’s Kamran Michael are contesting on minority seats. Advocate Naseer Bhutta is contesting on general seat as independent candidate.
