ISLAMABAD - Unseeded Wen-Yi Chou qualified from Chinese Taipei stunned 7th seed Nishad Kalluri of India in straight set 6-2, 6-2 to enter the second round of the Syed Tajammul Abbas ITF Pakistan World Junior Ranking Tennis Championships here at Senator Dilawar Abbas PTF Tennis Complex on Monday.
All the remaining seeded players won their respective matches. Third seed Arthav Neema of India struggled hard to win his encounter against Mathew Yee of Hong Kong in a well-contested three-set match. Rattanan Siritaworchar of Thailand beat Lui Cheng Hsuni of Chinese Taipei in another good three-set match 4-6, 7-5, 6-0. Pakistan’s M Shoaib beat compatriot Ahmed Kamil of Lahore 6-0, 4-6, 6-1. Ahmed Asjad Qureshi from Islamabad eliminated Cameron Austin Chang of USA 4-6, 6-4, 6-1.
In the girls event, Srujana Payarala of India outclassed Sevval Ozseker of Turkey 6-0, 6-1. Semra Aksu and Sedef Bilgic of Turkey also won their respective matches without conceding a single game in both sets against Pakistani players. Aysegul Mert from Turkey thrashed Pakistan’s Zoha Asim 6-0, 6-1 to qualify for quarterfinals. Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) president Saleem Saifullah Khan inaugurated the opening ceremony as chief guest.
