Woman set ablaze by ‘in-laws’ over domestic issue

KASUR - A woman was allegedly set ablaze by in-laws over domestic issue at Ladheki here the other day.
Mansha, resident of Attari, Lahore submitted an application to Kasur Saddr police, stating that his daughter Erum Shehzadi was married off to Qamar of Ladheki. He said that the couple, having three children, used to argue with each other over minor domestic issues. “On February 16, I was informed that Qamar had beaten my daughter. Two days later (Feb 18), I along with other family members reached the house of Qamar where an argument occurred between us and Erum’s in-laws,” he stated. “Angered over the argument, Qamar’s sisters - Bushra Bibi and Sidra Bibi - instigated him to set his wife ablaze, which he did after pouring petrol on her,” Mansha alleged. He added that Erum sustained critical burns and was rushed to Kasur District Headquarters Hospital where doctors referred her to Jinnah Hospital, Lahore where she succumbed to her burns.
On the other hand, Sanuran Bibi, Erum’s mother in-law said that Erum was beating children and Qamar asked her not to do so which led to an argument between the two. She maintained that Erum locked herself in the kitchen and set herself ablaze.
The police, however, registered a case against Sanuran Bibi and Bushra Bibi and launched investigation after taking them into custody. Kasur DPO Zahid Nawaz Marwat and SP (investigations) Quddus Baig visited the crime scene and reviewed the investigation process. Talking to media, the DPO said that the police are utilising modern technology to investigate the incident. He said that special teams had been formed for arrest of the fleeing accused.
