LAHORE (APP) - Federal Minister for Privatisation Senator Ahmad Waqar has said work on privatisation of 80 govt departments is underway. Talking to the media at Sui Northern Gas Pipe Line (SNGPL) Headquarters here on Tuesday, he said not a single worker would lose his job in the privatisation process. Workers are being made owners of departments under the Benazir Employees Stock Option Scheme, he added. He requested workers to work hard and make their departments financially strong. He said the PPP government wanted the depts to be financially re-modeled and the balance sheet of their income to atleast double. No deadline for privatization of these departments can be given but work on privatization of big departments is in progress, he added. He said the departments would be made attractive for interested international companies. The minister said the PPP govt was interested in alternate energy sources and the President wanted the country to fulfil its needs of electricity and gas independently. The government is concentrating on using Thar coal reserves for the production of energy, he added. Later, the minister met with SNGPL, Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) and Pakistan Mineral Development Corporation (PMDC) officials.
