ISLAMABAD - Supreme Court has directed the government to determine the responsibility regarding Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kairas statement, which he gave to a private TV Channel on January 12, wherein he had expressed his concerns over the alleged meeting of Chief Justice with Punjab Chief Minister despite the fact that the report of the meeting was later clarified as baseless. With the fixation of responsibility, the apex court will take action against the person, who tries to malign judiciary by issuing such statements, a three-member bench of the apex court observed here on Tuesday. During the course of proceedings, Deputy Attorney General, Shah Khawar informed the court that AGP Anwar Mansoor Khan could not appear before the court because he was engaged in some cases at Sindh High Court. The AGP also could not come to Islamabad because he was served the notice on Mondays late night, he said adding, We need two-week time for filing a written reply. Upon this point, the court gave a weeklong time for submission of reply, which may determine a person, who was responsible for issuing such statement against judiciary. The court also handed over the clippings of newspapers and videos to the Deputy AG, which might be helpful and directed him to determine the responsible person in the light of the record within a week. Earlier, on Monday, the Supreme Court issued a notice to Attorney General to explain the statement of Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira. Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, while directing the AGP said, .........I consider it appropriate to fix this matter in the apex court on January 19 and notice to Attorney General of Pakistan be issued in the first instance. A criminal application No 18 of 2010 case would be heard next week in the Supreme Court. It is also pertinent to mention here that Kaira told the media outside the Parliament House on January 12 that Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharif held a meeting with Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry while giving reference of a news story published in an English newspaper on 10th January despite the fact that the same newspaper the very next day published a clarification of the story. Kaira in his statement had expressed deep concerns over the meeting between Chief Minister Punjab and Chief Justice of Pakistan arguing that the detailed judgement pertaining to NRO was yet awaited. Registrar Office of the Supreme Court, Dr Faqeer Hussain had issued a statement saying if someone had evidences, he/she should submit written statement or reply in his chamber within three days. But no body filed the reply or his/her statement regarding the statement in the apex court.
