ISLAMABAD - Some unknown persons attacked the house of senior investigative reporter of a private TV channel and terrorised his family. The incident took place in the wee hours of Tuesday in the Jurisdiction of Koral Police Station. The affected journalist informed that some unknown persons attacked his house and locked both the gates, leaving the terrorised family locked inside. He said that the windscreen of his car was also smashed. Talking to TheNation, Azaz Syed said, Some two to three persons after locking the two gates my house from outside in the wee hours of Tuesday, smashed the windscreen of my car with stones and sped away, he said. It is relevant to note here that aforementioned reporters house was attacked when he was doing an investigative story related to human right abuses in the war against terror. Prior to this incident of harassment, the said reporter had faced an act of harassment some days ago when some unidentified person threw stone at the windscreen of his car. As per a letter written by said reporters organisation to President Asif Zardari and Prime Minister of Pakistan said, prior to the latest incident of harassment of Azaz Syed, on two different occasions, officials who identified themselves as being from a secret agency have contacted our two reporters. In one instance, an official who introduced himself as Assistant Director of a secret agency visited our office and insisted on collecting personal information of our senior correspondent Matiullah Jan. On another occasion, correspondent Azaz Syed was asked to visit the office of the secret agency where he was questioned by senior officials about a story, which he was working on along with Matiullah Jan, Senior Correspondent, it added. The letter further said that during the meeting with secret agency officials, Azaz Syed was told that a most senior official of secret agency was unhappy with him for probing a story. The journalist fraternity strongly condemned the incident and demanded a high level inquiry to unveil all those who were involved in the attack. Journalists termed the incident as a clear attack on freedom of press in Pakistan. The affected reporter told this scribe that a formal application has been handed over to area SP and FIR of the incident is yet to be registered.
