LAHORE Former Test cricketer Mohammad Ilyas has blasted at the Sports Ministrys move to take the PCB under its fold. Talking to The Nation Ilyas said that the Ministry should not interfere in the PCBs affair and asked the ministry to identify the sports that fall in its territory. He said: As I understand the Sports Ministry is trying to take control of the PCB. But my question is that how many sports fall under its Sports Ministry ambit? The example of our national sport 'hockey is in front of everyone. The sport has been destroyed by the Pakistan Sports Board and the political intervention, he added. He further said : Apart from hockey, see the state sports like badminton and swimming. The pathetic situation of these sports is the further proof of the Sports Ministrys inability to run any game properly. If they cant even manage those smaller time sports, then how could they make things better in cricket, he pointed out. It is my view, its the money in PCB which is being targeted otherwise how many cricketers or other sports officials are running the sports ministry to make things better in the game. I think the ministry instead loading its guns at the PCB, try to improve the infrastructure and other sporting facilities in the country and provide better life to sportsmen and leave cricket alone, he added. He further questioned: The decision to remove Jakhrani from the health ministry was ordered after information of corruption in the Ministry of Health surfaced in the media. If he couldnt control corruption in that department, how can he handle the PCB? On the recent performances of the national team, he stated: There are good and bad days in cricket. There are reasons behind the performance of the cricket team. First of all no team is playing in Pakistan. Playing at home is an advantage and as that is not an option we will have to be more patient, he opined. On a personal note, the Sports Minister was previously heading the Health Ministry.
