LAHORE The 967th Urs of Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh will kick off with the traditional chador-laying ceremony and milk sabeel (free distribution of milk) from January 23 (Sunday) and all arrangements have been finalised in this regard, said Punjab Auqaf Minister Haji Ehsan-ud-Din Qureshi. Talking to a press briefing at Darbar Complex here on Wednesday, he said, The Urs will have more sessions based on spiritual enlightenment and spreading the message of Islam. He said more than 500 Ulema, religious scholars and Sajada Nasheens had been invited to address the spiritual sittings on the Urs. He further said that over 200 spiritual and 'Khanqahi personalities, 'Sajada Nasheens, including Syed Muhammad Bilal Chishti from Ajmair Sharif, India, Deewan Syed Tahir Nizami from Delhi, India and Khawaja Fariddudin Fakhari will attend the ceremonies. Qureshi said Syed Hajver Tasawwuf Seminar would be organised at Punjab University on Thursday (today) in which scholars from Bahauddin Zikria University, Karachi University, Islamia College University Peshawar, International Islamic University, Islamabad, GCU Faisalabad and GCU Lahore will deliver their lectures on the life and teachings of Hazrat Data Sahib. An inter-university poetry contest 'Mehfil-e-Mushaira will also be arranged in the premises of the shrine on Friday, he said adding Mehfil-e-Samma and Mehfil-e-Naat would also be organised wherein prominent Naat Khawan and Qawwal from all over the country will participate. He said that the Auqaf Department had allocated Rs 4.5 million for organising the three-day Urs celebrations. He said the 'Langar (food) will be distributed among the devotees. He further said the department had made foolproof security arrangements for providing complete security to the devotees and 80 security cameras had been installed for monitoring the event while nine walk-through gates would be installed and metal detectors would be provided to the security staff. He said some 300 policemen, 65 security guards from Auqaf Department and 102 from private agency will also be deployed. As many as 200 workers will remain on duty to keep the premises clean while camp offices of different departments including Wapda, Wasa, Civil Defence and first aid will be set up during the three days of Urs, he added. During the briefing, Secretary Auqaf Tariq Mehmood Pasha and Director Tahir Raza were also present.
