Veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani, has said that India has turned occupied Kashmir into a police state as the innocent people of Kashmir are being harassed on one pretext or the other. According to Kashmir Media Service, Syed Ali Gilani in a statement issued in Srinagar urged India to give up its traditional policy of force and intimidation to muzzle the voice of Kashmiris who were struggling to secure their right to self-determination. He said that New Delhi had failed to suppress the Kashmir liberation movement through use of brute force as the people of territory had pledged to continue their freedom struggle till its logical end. Syed Ali Gilani said that the Indian Home Ministry was running the affairs of occupied territory and the sole purpose of the puppet administration was to provide cover to India's atrocities in the Kashmir Valley. Taking a strong exception to the harassment of Ulema by Indian police and raids on Islamic seminaries, the veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader called for peaceful one-hour protests after Juma prayers on January 21 against the police highhandedness. Protest is the only way to attract attention of the world community towards gross human rights violations perpetrated by occupation forces across the territory.
