LAHORE The Lahore High Court Wednesday reserved judgment on a petition filed earlier to challenge construction of Benazir Bhuttos monument at her martyrdom place in Liaquat Bagh, Rawalpindi. The petitioner has been filed by advocate Feroz Shah Gillani to question construction of the monument of Ms Bhutto at the cost of public money reportedly to the tune of Rs 1 billion. Deputy Attorney General Naveed Inayat Malik submitted a report on behalf of the federal secretary law which said that Benazir Bhutto was a personality of international fame and she was a national hero as she embraced martyrdom while struggling for democracy and that is why her memorial was being built from national kitty. The petitioners counsel said Benazir Bhutto was a PPP leader and not a national hero and if PPP wanted to construct her monument, it should build it from its own funds and not from national exchequer as it was money of the tax payers which should not be spent on memorials. The petitioner has also prayed the court to remove the names of politicians given to various government buildings and airports, hospitals, government and semi-government departments.
