PESHAWAR - A pedestrian was killed and 17 others including nine children got injured when a remote-controlled bomb went off in front of a private school here in Nothia area on Wednesday. The thundering voice of the blast resonated in far-flung areas of the city and it broke the windowpanes of the school and nearby houses. Police and other rescue agencies rushed towards the blast site soon after the explosion. Police cordoned off the area and arrested a suspected person from the site, who was shifted to unknown place for further investigation. SSP (Operation) Ejaz Ahmad said according to the initial investigations, the remote-controlled bomb was planted in a horse cart and about four to five kilograms explosive material was used in the blast. He said the miscreants exploded the bomb with the help of a remote control at a time when children were gathered at the courtyard of Shah Faisal Model School, Nothia, for morning assembly. The deceased was identified as Umar Aziz son of Abdul Aziz. He was 35-year old and resident of Nothia. In the wake of the new spell of sabotage attempts in Peshawar and its suburban areas, section-144 has been imposed by the district administration.
