Protesting students baton-charged

LAHORE The metropolitan police baton charged the students of University of Education here Wednesday when they staged a protest demonstration against the Vice Chancellor. The students of Information Technology were protesting against acting Vice Chancellor Farhat Saleem Farhat as she, according to the students, removed two senior faculty members on personal reasons. The police beat a large number of students when they were marching from Township campus towards Akbar Chowk. A number of students including females injured during the incident. The police also arrested few students who were later released. The students again gathered and staged protest at Faisal Chowk in front of the Punjab Assembly and blocked the road which resulted into huge traffic mess. The student chanted slogan against the VC and demanded immediate restoration of the teachers, Dr Muhammad Anwar-ur-Rehman Pasha, Professor of computer science, Division of Science and Technology and Dr Shaheen Pasha, Assistant Professor of Special Education, whose services were terminated on Monday. The students alleged that the VC UoE has fake degree of PhD as she herself approved her final thesis. They said the acting VC was working in BPS 20 while Dr Pasha was in BPS 21. They urged the Governor Punjab to dismiss the VC and restore their teachers. Later a committee have been formed to probe the issue. The students were promised that their demands would be fulfilled after the decision of the committee.
