LAHORE A constitutional petition has been moved in the Supreme Court of Pakistan, Lahore Registry, urging for cultivating democratic character within the political parties of the country. The petition has been filed by advocate Syed Feroz Shah Gillani inter alia contending that almost all main political parties in the country were going by hereditary/dynasty politics keeping the common people away from representing the country. The petitioner contended that dynasty politics and office-holding by members of one family had given birth to an undemocratic culture within the political parties. The petitioner prayed to the court for a direction to the authorities concerned to legislate properly to break the status-quo of dynasty rule in political parties and meantime decision on the petition, the party heads may be restrained from exercising their powers available to them under Article 63-A of the Constitution.
