‘German chief minister’ astonishes audience

LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif during the second day of his visit to Germany on Thursday addressed at length in the German language to ambassadors, farmers and civil society members in Berlin.
According to a handout issued here, the chief minister in his address mentioned the great cultural traditions of Germany. The audience was astonished to learn his command on the German language and they openly appreciated his speech.
The chief minister said that he happened to visit Germany for the first time at the age of 15 and he had always been an admirer of the tenacity and determination of Germans.
Shahbaz said the vast opportunities of investment for German investors were there in every sector including livestock, agriculture, energy and education in Pakistan. He offered to give guarantee of protection to the investment by German investors. He said the foreign investors should keep in view the example of Turkey, which had made huge investment in Punjab recently.
The chief minister said due to green week in Berlin, Pakistan had been able not only to exhibit its agricultural product but foreign investment in other sectors would also be increased.
He said German products were considered to be a symbol of quality and durability in Pakistan. He opined that Pakistan could successfully meet all challenges by following the example of Germany. He said the relations between the people of Pakistan and Germany had been exemplary and people of Punjab, especially, could not forget the assistance of Germany during flood.
