Cases against Zardari real, not political, says Nawaz

LAHORE  - PML-N President Nawaz Sharif said on Thursday that all the cases constituted against Asif Ali Zardari during his regime were real and not on political basis.
Expressing his viewpoint about the contempt of court proceedings against Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, Nawaz said a lot of cases were constituted against the politicians in the past on political basis. In this regard, he cited a personal example of plane hijacking case against him, which brought a bad name to the office of the Prime Minister of Pakistan in the comity of nations. However, he insisted that all the cases formed against Zardari during his regime were real, and not political.
In an interview with a private TV channel, he said the courts had taken the responsibility to determine presidential immunity and the government should write the letter to Swiss court immediately. The PML-N chief said the immunity is a separate issue but the matter at the hand is that to whom the Swiss money amounting to 60 million dollars belongs. “Masses have nothing to do with the immunity, but they certainly know that the money in the Swiss banks belongs to them,” he said, expressing doubt that the money might have been shifted from Swiss banks to somewhere else.
To a question, Nawaz said Aitzaz Ahsan played a crucial role in the movement for restoration of judges, but he came out with a different stance over the contempt of court issue. “I am trying to understand what Aitzaz is up to this time,” he said.
Nawaz said some lawyers believe that the president had immunity, while others think this was not the case.
