“The University of Health Sciences (UHS) and Gujranwala Medical College (GMC) have to be at the forefront to give a new look to health delivery system in the province”, he said while addressing the faculty of both the institutions here at UHS on Thursday. UHS Vice Chancellor Prof. Malik Hussain Mubbashar, GMC principal Prof. Atiya Mubarik Khalid, Dr. Nisar Cheema, Executive District Officer (Health) Gujranwala and Dr. Capt. M. Zafar Iqbal Medical Superintendent of Gujranwala District Headquarters Hospital were also present. Khurram further said that the benefit of science and medicine should trickle down to general public. He emphasized the need of promoting data gathering and evidence-based medical research among undergraduate medical students.

Hailing the decision of Punjab government to declare GMC as the constituent college of UHS, he said that it was for the first time that people of Gujranwala were having the benefit of their proximity to Lahore.  UHS Vice Chancellor Prof. M.H. Mubbashar congratulated the faculty of GMC on becoming the part of UHS and assured them of full support.  He said that GMC was now entitled to all the privileges given to UHS by Higher Education Commission and other international organization.

Prof. Mubbashar emphasized the need of putting in place a meaningful healthcare system with more emphasis on primary care.

UHS VC, while lauding the services of GMC principal Prof. Atiya Mubarik, resolved once again to make GMC a ‘model institute’.  GMC principal Prof. Atiya Mubarik said that she and her faculty were excited about the opportunities this development would provide to them.  “This is certainly a historic movement for us. We are honoured to be a part of UHS which is an internationally acclaimed university”.
