SARGODHA - Quality education is like a debt on students which must be paid back, as education is found to have positive effects on a country’s economic growth and development, said University of Sargodha Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mohammad Akram Chaudhry on Thursday.

Addressing a ceremony organised by the Punjab Educational Endowment Fund on the varsity premises, the vice-chancellor said the future of UoS students was linked to the country and they should work hard to bring positive changes in the larger national interest.

Akram Chaudhry lauded the Punjab government for granting scholarships to deserving students. “It is the demand of the 21st century that educational institutes be put on the right track for progress in the field of education and social uplift.

About the UoS, the vice-chancellor said the status achieved by the varsity for promotion of education, research and extracurricular activities and the role of UoS teachers and students were highly commendable that validated its distinction. By adopting the policy of self-reliance, the UoS had lined itself up among successful varsities of the world, concluded Chaudhry.

Speaking on the occasion, PEEF Manger Rana Nasir Subhani explained the mission and policy of the foundation. He said that funds provided by the PEEF helped students continue their studies and fulfil their economic and social needs. Subhani further said the PEEF was working in other provinces purely on merit-basis and without any political discrimination.

A large number of teachers and students attended the programme.
