LAHORE – The PPP-led government instead of considering the early polls a matter of ego should immediately announce the date for the fresh elections, said JI chief, Syed Munawar Hasan.

He expressed these views while talking to the media at Mansoora after chairing first session of the party’s three-day central shoora moot on Thursday.

He said that PPP had always secured the sympathies of the masses by painting itself as a ‘political martyr’ being targeted by the establishment.

Munawar while saying that everybody should respect the directions of the courts appreciated Prime Minister for appearing before the Supreme Court.

However, he added that the true respect for the judiciary demands faithful implementation of its orders.

JI chief said that the PPP-led government during its last four years rule had pushed the country to a situation where fresh elections were the only way out.

He remarked that Aitzaz Ahsan was a competent lawyer who had been trying to make his place in the PPP ranks and had finally succeeded.

Asked about the visit of Mansoor Ejaz, he said that Mansoor Ejaz’s visit was not of much importance because Prime Minister Gilani’s speech in the National Assembly on the issue would suffice and the court Supreme Court won’t need Mansoor Ejaz’s evidence.

To a question about the MMA’s revival, the JI Ameer said that all the parties were in contact with each other.

He added that the matter of election alliance or seat adjustment would be decided after the announcement of elections.

Meanwhile, addressing the JI central shoora, Munawar said that it appeared the Defence Committee of the Parliament had decided to restore NATO supplies on certain conditions.

This, he added, implied providing the enemy a passage to carry arms and ammunition for use against ourselves.

He said that the JI had been carrying on Go America Go campaign and it would have been better if all parties had joined hands on a single point agenda, especially against the restoration of NATO supplies.
