MULTAN - Jamaat-e-Islami Punjab Ameer Dr Syed Waseem Akhtar has said that PPP and her allies are trying to become political martyrs after badly failing on all fronts but the masses will thwart their attempts.

Talking to the media persons here on Thursday, he added that complete destruction of strategically important institutions like PIA, Railway, WAPDA and Pakistan Steel as well as power crisis, price hike, drone attacks, crumbling economy, Mehran Base attack, Abbotabad operation and memogate scandals were biggest examples of government’s poor performance. He said that the undemocratic behaviour of rulers was the biggest threat to democracy in the country. “Why prime minister wants to protect corrupt elements under the umbrella of NRO?” he posed a question.

He said that the JI wanted change in the country in a constitutional way and it considered current regime an annexure of Musharraf era. He demanded of the government to announce new elections as soon as possible as political stability would bring economic stability. He said that those doing their politics on the issue of provinces kept the residents of South Punjab deprived during their entire era. He asked the government to create new administrative units in the country and restore the old status of Bahawalpur province.
