ISLAMABAD - Roots United won the Challenge Cup 2011-12 Football Tournament after beating Nishtar Football Academy 1-0 in the final here on Thursday.

Twenty clubs appeared in The tournament started on December 19. Nishtar Academy team started the final as favourites having services of some quality players against their weaker opponents Roots United comprising school kids.

Nishtar Academy dominated earlier part of the first half but Nisthar strikers failed to take advantage and the half ended 0-0.

Roots United got lead through Khyber Shah in the 88th minutes against Nishtar that proved the winner. Burhan Bilal, captain of Roots United, was named the best midfielder, Raja Shoaib, best defender and Khyber Shah, the hero of the final, was given the award of the best scorer of the tournament. Best management/best coach award was given to Shahid Mehmood.

The chief guests for the final prize distribution ceremony were Siddique Sheikh, FIFA/AFC instructor and Shahzad Anwar, coach Pakistan national football team. They later distributed prizes and certificates among the players and teams.
