NOWSHERA - At least seven people including an SHO were injured when a suicide bomber detonated himself up during a routine check-up at Watar Police Checkpost in Nowshera on Thursday.

The injured included three civilians and four cops. Sources said that police had prior information about the entry of an alleged suicide attacker in the limits of Nowshera. Extraordinary security measures were taken at all entry and exit points to thwart any untoward incident apart from deploying additional police force.

A police party led by SHO Alamzeb Khan of Akora Khattak Police Station was on routine check-up at Watar Police Checkpost on main GT Road when it signalled a vehicle and asked a man sitting in it to come out for checking and showing his identity card. On this, the man detonated himself.

Resultantly, SHO Alamzeb Khan and his three other companions sustained multiple injuries in the explosion. SHO Alamzeb, who lost one of his arms in the blast, was rushed to CMH Hospital.

The other injured were rushed to nearby hospital for treatment. Security agencies reached the crime scene soon after the blast and cordoned off the area.

Sources said the bomber was identified as Amjad alias Jannat Gul a member of Qari Kamran group. An unexploded suicide vest was also recovered from the vehicle.

In the wake of the blast, main GT Road was blocked for all sorts of traffic. It was a severe blast and people rushed to the blast site to know about the incident. DPO Nowshera, Mohammad Hussain Khan said that police were already on high alert to foil any terror bid in Nowshera.

"Our investigation so far has revealed that it was a suicide attack," he added. He said police investigation underway.
