LAHORE – Taking serious note of reports in TheNation on severe violation of rules and regulations inside the high security prison, the Prisons IG Mian Farooq Nazeer has replaced Superintendent Kot Lakhpat Jail Mian Mushtaq Awan by Mohsin Rafiq, former Superintendent Adyala Jail, with immediate effect on Thursday. Mr. Awan has been closed line to Jail Headquarters till further orders. No official inquiry or legal action was taken against Mr. Awan till filing of this report.

In this regard, Prison Department Punjab has constituted special teams to check use of mobile phones by prisoners in the jails. “Inspector General Jails Punjab Mian Farooq Nazeer presided over a high level meeting herein the City on Thursday and constituted a high level committee to probe into the matter,” a senior officer told this reporter. He, however, said that the IG Jails took several bold decisions to curb use of mobile phones inside the jails. He further said the IG has even imposed ban on mobile usage by the Superintendents at the jail. Mian Farooq has decided that neither superintendent jails nor medical officers will be allowed to carry cell phone in the jail premises otherwise strict departmental action would be initiated against all in case of violation.
