THE cast of Les Miserables are set to take to the stage at this year’s Oscar ceremony, following the film’s multiple Academy Awards nominations.
According to reports Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway - both of whom are nominated for Oscars for their work in the film - will be among those performing at Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre during the awards on February 24.
They are likely to be joined by other cast members including Eddie Redmayne, who plays Marius, and Samantha Barks - who stars as Eponine - although it is not yet clear which songs they will perform. It if not the first time that Jackman and Hathaway will have performed together at the Oscars, having taken to the stage together at the 2009 ceremony.
Jackman is nominated for the best actor Oscar while Hathaway’s performance as Fantine in the film has won her a nod for best supporting actress.
Both won Golden Globes for their performances last weekend. The film - directed by former Oscar-winner Tom Hooper - has also been a hit at UK cinemas, pulling in the biggest ever opening for a musical when it opened last weekend.
In total it took £8.1m at the box office, outstripping previous musical champion Mamma Mia by over £3m - and so far has taken over $200m worldwide. –GN
