LAHORE – Reiterating his resolve to continue with fight for democracy, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has taken a swipe at the Minhajul Quran chief for staging sit-in for his personal interests.
“The so-called sit-in, staged to appease foreign masters, ended after Tahirul Qadri struck a deal with the federal government, exposing the propagandists. The march leader, who claimed to have stood up for saving the state, failed to save his skin, the chief minister said in a statement on Saturday. He said: “The so-called march holders should inform the nation as to why five-day drama ended in five hours.” However, the chief minister said that the democratic forces had waged a long struggle against dictatorship and no one could be allowed to derail democracy through such dramas.
He said the people, who stayed away from the Minhaj march, had proved that wanted democracy and that they would not support any unconstitutional step. Shahbaz said: “Change does not land through a container, but through the power of the vote. the masses had rejected the “imported conspirators.”
Calling the long march a fake march, the chief minister those who flung insult at each other became buddies.
He said people were mentally prepared for upcoming general elections and they would not accept change through undemocratic step. Shahbaz said that the Punjab government had laid the foundation of real change by promoting good governance and setting a new record of public service.
“We have served the people and our best performance is before the people, who are the best judge,” he said, hoping that the people would elect the true leadership into the parliament in the upcoming elections.
He said corrupt mafia has looted the national exchequer, pushing the country into darkness. He said his party would continue serving the public after coming into power in the elections.
