Korangi district starts functioning today

KARACHI - Newly-established Korangi district would start working today as a separate district, having deputy commissioner and other designated posts.
The Sindh government had declared Korangi as a new district on October 29, 2013, comprising various areas of Korangi, Landhi, Shah Faisal Colony and Model Colony.  According to new map, seven sub-divisions including Saddar, Arambagh, Civil Line, Garden, Lyari, Harbour and Maripur are included in South Karachi district while East Karachi district would contain four sub-divisions – Ferozabad, Jamshed Quarters, Gulshan-e-Iqbal and Gulzar-e-Hijri (Scheme-33). District Malir Karachi contains six sub-divisions – Bin Qasim, Ibrahim Hydri, Shah Mureed, Gaddap, Airport and Murad Memon Goth while five sub-divisions including Orangi, Mominabad, SITE, Baldia and Manghopir would be the part of West Karachi district.
The official notification states that Central Karachi district will comprise five sub-divisions – Liaquatabad, Gulberg, Nazimabad, North Nazimabad and New Karachi. The new district Korangi will comprise four sub-divisions –Model Colony, Shah Faisal, Korangi and Landhi, adds the notification issued by the revenue department. With the addition of new district, number of the administrative districts has gone up from five to six including South, West, East, Central, Malir and Korangi districts.
Karachi Commissioner Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui and KMC Administrator Rauf Akhtar Farooqi jointly inaugurated the newly-established Korangi district's office On Sunday.  On the occasion, Siddiqui said that the Sindh government’s step for establishing new districts is in favour of the citizens. He said the government has appointed Zubair Ahmed Channa as the Korangi Deputy Commissioner. The Karachi commissioner hoped that the newly-appointed deputy commissioner would play his role for development of the district especially coastal belt of the district and sports activities for youngster. “Stadiums and crickets grounds of Korangi district should be made functional, so that extra-curriculum activities could be continued in future” he added. He assured the Korangi Association of Trade and Industries of resolving its issues on priority basis. On the occasion, Farooqi assured of KMC’s cooperation saying its Anti-Encroachment Logistic Cell would remain under the supervision of district administration for two days in a week.
